Dear PFLAG Family,
May has brought a flurry of activity and requests for information and presentations.
I want to thank everyone who attended our annual Mother’s Day potluck. The food was terrific. I want to again thank Mike and Gloria Carney for providing a lot of meat and a great variety!
June will bring a presentation by Sara G. from PROMO regarding some highlights of LGBT history. July will tentatively include a presentation regarding LGBT issues within the Black or African American community. If you have an idea for a program or speaker, please contact any Board member.
We had a terrific afternoon for the Troost Fest which is a new venue for PFLAG. We were represented many years ago when I first became involved. The LGCC annual picnic had a great turnout as well. We had to split our time between that and the MAFA picnic. Occasionally, we have multiple events that conflict with each other. I am thankful for an active Board that finds out about the events and makes sure that we are represented.
Pride Fest will be taking place June 6-7 (Saturday and Sunday) at Penn Valley Park, close to the Liberty Memorial. If you signed up to volunteer at the information table, Carolyn will be contacting you soon to schedule staff. The hours of the festival are Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am to 10:00 PM, both days depending on traffic. I would encourage you to attend Pride Fest, whether or not you work the table. There are lots of other organizations present and networking is a must. Please contact me or any Board member for information. We decided on a new logo for t-shirts. Everyone who has signed up to work the table at pride will have access to a t-shirt. The exact cost has yet to be determined. We will also decide after pride whether to order additional t-shirts to sell later.
I will be attending the Pride Festival in Wichita, Kansas the last weekend of June. There used to be a chapter in Wichita but it has folded. I have heard that there is a small group that is meeting. I hope to catch up with them during the festival weekend.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the June meeting and at Pride Fest!
Thank you for all that you do within our organization and our community as a
whole!
Randy
