PROMO’s annual Equality Day at the Capitol in Jefferson City is Tuesday, February 17.

This year we want you to stand alongside your fellow activists to tell the Missouri Legislature “Show Me Fairness!” Every Missouri citizen should have the right to earn a living and contribute to their community without the fear of being discriminated against because of who they are. Treating others like you want to be treated is good for business, good for communities, and good for Missouri.

Please join us at the Capitol to share your stories and urge your elected officials to pass legislation that protects the LGBT community from employment, housing, and public accommodation discrimination and safeguards youth from the damaging effects of bullying. This is a unique opportunity to help us change hearts and help ensure Missouri is a fair and respectful place for all Missourians to live, work, and raise their families.

We feel that 2015 has the potential to #ShowMeFairness and we want to do it with you!

Transportation will be provided from Kansas City.

Meeting at 7:15 leaving at 7:30 a.m.
Meeting Place: The Uptown Theater parking lot. Located directly north of the Uptown on the NW corner of Broadway and Valentine.

10 Simple Things You Can Do To Make a Difference

  1. Become a member of PFLAG and join with thousands of people from all walks of life, working to end discrimination against lesbians, gays, and bisexuals.
  2. Teach your children that being gay, lesbian, or bisexual is simply another means of expressing love.
  3. If one of your family is gay, lesbian, or bisexual be sure to let them know you love them just the way they are.
  4. Don’t tell anti-gay jokes. You just perpetuate the stereotypes about gays and lesbians.
  5. Read PFLAG literature and find out more about what it is really like to be a lesbian, gay, or bisexual in our society.
  6. Be open with others about having lesbian, gay, or bisexual friends or family. Secrecy breeds shame.
  7. If you over hear someone making an anti-gay comment, let them know you don’t agree or approve.
  8. Write Congress to protest any anti-gay legislation as you become aware of it.
  9. Encourage open and honest discussion of gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues in your home, workplace and church.
  10. Stand with those who believe that discrimination against anyone is a crime against humanity – TAKE A STAND WITH PFLAG.
